My Q&A With USA Today!

NeNe Leakes - Dancing With the Stars

Some of you would be surprised to know that I love to play basketball and I’m actually a damn good shooter!

I did an interview with Jason Jordan from USA Today before Dancing With the Stars to talk about the competition, who would win a Real Housewives UFC fight, my skills on the court and much more… read the full interview here!

JJ: Where did you excel the most on the court?
NL: At the free-throw line. I feel like I’m a shooter and I could always make them so that was always a time where I could really shine.

JJ: Are you saying you could beat me in a free-throw shooting contest?
NL: Oh yeah! Let me tell you Jason; our production crew that comes here to my house is made up of a bunch of guys and we have a basketball hoop in the driveway that they’re always shooting around on. I’ll go out and shoot with them and they just can’t believe how many I make. So, yeah, I’d win.

JJ: What old style would you love to bring back?
NL: When I was in high school I used to love these pants called Nickel’s. They were past your knees, but they weren’t quite pants. They were a little bit like high waters. I think they’re coming back now. They’re very fashionable. Remember back in the day they had the Colonel from Kentucky Fried Chicken? He had them on and they were buckled right at his knee. Those pants are hot! I could see someone like Pharrell wearing them or maybe Kanye. Ya know you’ve gotta be really funky and really out there to rock those.

JJ: Who would win a UFC tournament between the ladies of The Real Housewives or Atlanta?
NL: (Laughs) Well, you know I’d win, Jason! Come on now; I’d just knock ‘em all out and just keep on moving.

JJ: What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
NL: My aunt who raised me has given me some of the best advice. She always told me to be a dreamer and I always have been. She would always tell me, and I know it’s cliché but it’s so true, that you can do anything you want to do and be anybody you want to be. When I was young I didn’t get it; I’d be like, “She’s so crazy, I can’t be Janet Jackson!” I couldn’t see what she saw, but being older I see how true it is. She was saying that if you put your mind to it you can do and be anything that you want to be.

JJ: What’s your strategy?
NL: My only strategy is to bring personality, fun and soul to the show. I feel like they don’t have a lot of soul in there so I can add that. My goal is just to do the best that I can do. My best may not win, but I will absolutely give it all that I have. I just want to be able to come home and be at peace.

JJ: This year America can pick different partners for you; who would you love to pair up with?
NL: Yeah, I’m so not excited about that. My only pick would be Max because he’s the only tall one. I hope they give me him and not Derek because we would look like fools.
